Psalm 127: 3-5
(Katelyn's Song)
I wrote the song, Again and Again, for my daughter Katelyn's wedding in October 2016. She mentioned to me almost five months prior, how cool it would be if I could write a song for her upcoming wedding. I told her I'd try but coming into August 2016, I had nothing lyrically or musically. I told her the song just wasn't coming to me like I had hoped. She told me, "That's OK Dad. No worries. We'll just go with another song I like."
About a week and a half later, I was going through some of my earlier writings (I'm talking stuff I had written back in the 70's and 80's) and I came across a paragraph that I had written way back in 1985 (back in my Navy days) - a verse about a relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend. I grabbed my guitar and started strumming this simple E chord progression I always practiced with and sang a few bars, then changed a few words of the paragraph to go along with it, and within an hour, I had written three new verses and a simple chorus. The last verse came a few days later as I brought the song to a bright ending.
Within four-weeks' time, I had written my daughter a beautiful song with finalized lyrics, had the instruments set to be played, band gathered, studio booked, music recorded, my vocals recorded, then mixed and mastered just before her early October wedding (Thank you John for going above and beyond!)
Katelyn's surprised look and the huge smile on her face when Again & Again started to play as our Father-Daughter dance song is a moment I'll never forget. We danced the entirety of the song, and I even sang the last verse to her:
The marriage of two is so close at hand
The life you'll share holds so many plans
Our bond will stay tight until the very end
'Cause I love you forever - Again and Again
I ended up teary-eyed. The last two lines gets me each and every time I sing that verse... Wow! 🥲
